First registered 12.01.1956 and looking to of been supplied by Jack Barclays, 498 FS has only had 3 owners in its life. The first until 1980 when sold to its second owner for the princely sum of £4875 according to the receipt with the paper work, then in 2014 to its current owner a gentleman collector that did use it on the odd occasion in his business as an undertaker, as a funeral entourage car.
Soon after purchasing the car in 2014 the brake and cooling systems were refreshed with over a thousand pounds spent on parts alone. 5 new radial tyres were also fitted at this point. Unfortunately apart from old MOTs dating from 1979 and the original owners book, there is not a lot else in the way of history with the car.
While not perfect the body work is nice, yes there are areas that could be improved, but still very presentable with nice bright chrome work throughout. Interior wise, the leather looks to be original and as such is now showing its age in places although I think today that is called “Patina”.
Under that long bonnet it is very nice indeed. The current owner was told the engine had been rebuilt in the past and it sure looks to of been, but again with no history you make your own mind up? But starting very easily and with no nonsense.
On the road 498FS drives very well, steering is light and precise, brakes work well and the gearbox changes smoothly, attracting many admiring looks while wafting along the country roads round here and even “selfies” when stationary at a T-junction, I kid you not!
Only offered for sale now as its owner is downsizing his collection due to advancing years and the want to move overseas.
