A rare sight on the roads today this Dutton B plus is correctly registered so no problems looming with the new registration laws that are coming our way.
The spec of this car reads straight out of the manual of ” Best bits to use” and is as follows: Engine. 1700cc dry sumped 711 crossflow, big valve head, full roller rockers, twin 45 dellortos, A6 cam, Lumition, rev limiter, 120hp.
Mk3 Cortina gearbox box with rally clutch. Triumph Herald front suspension and brakes. Period Koni coil overs on all corners, 5 linked rear axle, Ford Capri rear drums.
Period Les Leston wood rim with quick release, period Cortina clocks. Period Dunlop Alloys with space saver spare under bonnet. 3 point harnesses. Split 2 piece full torneau cover trimmed to match.
A body off full restoration was carried out in 1999 by its current and long term owner. A man who is more normally found carrying out high class restoration work on Minis, but built this for himself, after discovering it neglected in a barn somewhere and with only light use since completion (2000 miles).
Originally built in 1976 using a 1965 Cortina as a donor, this excellent and probably one of the oldest Duttons to survive, still drives as well today as the day he finished it. Guaranteed to make you smile when you drive it and
all the fun of a “7” at a fraction of the cost.
