When launched in April 1964, who would of guessed that Ford had just created what went on the be the most Famous of all American cars, the Mustang. Those early series cars although all ID plated as a 1965 model, became known as a “64 and a half”, soon becoming the most sought after and collectable of the breed.
Coming to us from a collection we have been given the opportunity to offer on behalf of their owner, this superb example ticks all the boxes. Built July 20th 1964 it is a very early car and a true “64 and a half” better still it is one of the first to have the 289 cubic inch V8 and very rare, it’s a 4 speed manual.
Now apart from a colour change from its original “Vintage Burgundy Metallic” to the red you see here and an alternator replacing the early cars dynamo, it has managed to retain most of its other original features 54 years later! First registered here in the UK in June 2014 then sold to its current owner in October the same year, it has been part of his collection since.
Obviously to be in this condition it must have been restored, but there is no paperwork to back this up. The body work is excellent as is the underneath of the car. Its V8 up front starts very easily, ticks over smoothly and pulls well on the road.
Interior wise the optional bucket seats up front and the rear bench appear to be original with just the seams on the top outer corners, by your shoulders when seated in the front, beginning to give way. Carpet is new and the dash is excellent with the original radio still in place. The optional column mounted “Tach pack” is yet another rare addition.
With the market for Mustangs still as strong as ever this beautiful motor car would be a welcome addition to any collection.
