UPDATE: Now having had a new set of tyres all round (old ones poor on side walls from standing) and a set of new wiper blades this car whistled through its MOT with no more than an advisory for rear anti roll bar bushes (dry but no movement)! Also while driving to and from the test station it became apparent that the speedometer is reading in Kilometres still so the mileage showing is actually the equivalent to 61,300 miles so even lower than we thought.
A rare find indeed! This JDM Spec Mazda Mx6 had been stood for the last ten years prior to coming into stock with us. Imported when only 5 years old in 1998, it was last Mot’d in 2007 with 96379 miles on the clock and still only has 98110 recorded today. These Japanese spec cars have a 200 horse power variant of Mazda’s 2.5 liter V6 engine, 40 horses more than that found in the UK variant, then in the Ford Probe and nearly 40 more than in Fords “Performance” drivative Mondeo ST24. This particular car also has the rarely optioned 4 wheel steering and electric sun roof fitted alongside its air conditioning, central locking, cd player, electric mirrors etc etc etc.
Body work wise there is little or no damage but as usual with red coloured cars, the top surfaces have been sun damaged and while still shiny have started to go milky, so to make perfect would need to be painted, the paint on the original alloys has started to peel in places.
The very well equiped luxury interior is in superb condition through out and even the original stereo is in place and working.
We changed the oil and filter as a precaution prior to starting the engine, put a battery on it and off it went as if it had been started the day before! The rare automatic gearbox (only 29 Auto Mx6’s aparently registered on the road today, how many of them are Jap spec, not many i am sure!) selected gear instantly and drove without fault.
A new MOT will be placed on the car prior to sale so mechanically it will be fully checked over after standing for so long.
With the now massive and still growing interest in Japanese classic and retro cars, this Mazda represents a rare oportunity to purchase a car that has not been offered for sale for over a decade. Rectify the slightly faded paint and have a show car or use as is and enjoy this rare sports coupe.
