Now in stock is this Volkswagen Golf 3 door GTi 16v , the rarest of the Mk3 Golfs and set to be as collectable as its other 16v engine siblings, the Mk1 and 2 Gti’s.
This car came to us having been dry stored for 10 years. What struck us apart from its scarcity, was the fact that it had survived so well as an original unmolested car! Apart from having aftermarket wheels, which we have managed to source the correct originals to replace them with, the only other item was a non-standard stereo fitted which had been removed at some point.
With the car was its original owner’s wallet, complete with all its handbooks, warranty card and a fully main dealer stamped service book up to 2003 at 75K miles. Then old Mots up to 97K in 2008 when after another 3k it went into storage, backing up its still very low recorded mileage of only 100K today. Now with a new mot in place.
We had the car fully recommissioned prior to its new mot being carried out, this included a full service, brake callipers striped, cleaned and refitted using new brake fluid throughout, the breather pipes had gone brittle so were all replaced. Now the engine starts instantly and even idles from cold!
Underneath the car was excellent with just some slight corrosion beginning on the usual suspects, the front jacking points. While not gone yet, we had them professionally attended to now rather than leave them to deteriorate. The replacement original alloys we sourced, had new and matching tyres fitted. On the road the car feels like a good GTi should, taught handling and pulls through all the gears. It is still amazing just how much fun these cars are to drive, even after all these years a good example will soon remind you.
Interior wise it is more of the same, all original (except the stereo) and in excellent order. Apart from one very small snag on the drivers seat bolster there is now damage. All the standard electric windows etc work as does the rare factory option electric sun roof.
If you are reading this, I do not need to tell you just how rarely the opportunity to buy this car comes along, especially one in this condition, with its history intact and that has been hidden away for a decade. Now ready for this season of car shows or just to be enjoyed once more by its new owner. Look after it and it will continue go up in value.
